Two-seat student desks are classroom furniture with a single shared work surface designed for two students at the same time. They consist of a powder-coated metal frame and a laminated top, often complemented by a front modesty panel, a book shelf, and bag hooks. Compared with single-seat desks, two-seat student desks make more efficient use of classroom floor space and encourage cooperation between students during lessons.

VVN two-seat student desks are available in both adjustable-height and fixed-height versions. On adjustable models, a telescopic mechanism allows the height to be changed without tools, using a convenient locking system, while fixed-height models are available in seven sizes matching different height groups.

In practice, this means: Year 1 students are typically suited to height group No. 2-3, while secondary-school students need group No. 5-6. An adjustable two-seat desk allows the same piece of furniture to be reset as a student grows taller, or when the desk is handed down to another class.
All VVN two-seat student desks are manufactured to the LVS EN 1729-1 standard (functional dimensions) and tested to LVS EN 1729-2 (safety requirements and test methods) – the European standard that, since 2007, has set the dimensions and safety criteria for school furniture based on student height.
In addition, Latvia has in force Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 610 of 27 December 2002, “Hygiene Requirements for Educational Institutions Implementing General Basic Education, General Secondary Education, Basic Vocational Education, Vocational Training or Vocational Secondary Education Programmes”. Paragraph 22 of this regulation (in the wording in force since 1 January 2020) requires that classrooms be equipped with furniture suited to the physical characteristics of learners, taking ergonomic requirements and principles into account. Adjustable-height two-seat student desks are a direct way of meeting this requirement, as they allow the workstation to be precisely adapted to each student’s height.
